What Is Double Cleansing And What Are The Benefits?

It wasn't until recently that American culture began borrowing from the tried and true beauty routines of the women from Korea.  There, 10 step regimens including essences, serums, cleansers, moisturizers and more are part of the everyday hygiene experience.  Pristine, glowing skin is par for the course where beauty shops line the promenades and can be found on every street corner, like Starbucks in the urban areas of the United States.

What Is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing is the practice of using an oil based cleanser to first pull out and remove oil based debris, makeup and sunscreen with magnetic power so that it's then ready for the water based cleanser to remove the water based sweat and dirt.

The belief in the double cleanse is grounded in having super clean skin that helps to maintain a healthy glow without stripping the natural oils from our skin barrier.  A smooth, pure surface, free from bacteria is ready for maximum absorption of beauty treatments allowing them to do their work.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, the two step process enables a gentle cleanse without the stripping of healthy oils and bacteria meant to protect our dermis.

How To Double Cleanse:

First, start with a dime sized amount of oil cleanser and massage with a bit of warm water.  Pay particular attention to the areas that have makeup or sunscreen and then gently remove with warm water and a wet washcloth.

Then, bring on the water based cleanser to finish the job and do a deeper cleaning, one that typically tightens pores and removes the balance of anything left behind from the first step. Massage lightly with warm water and leave on for at least one minute before rinsing with a warm water and washcloth.

Never rub, tug or pull on your skin.  Treat it with love and enjoy every moment of the magic in self care.
